Sutak & observance notes

Traditionally, sutak begins about 12 hours before a solar eclipse and about 9 hours before a lunar eclipse, and applies only in regions where the eclipse is visible. Temples commonly close during sutak and reopen after the eclipse ends. Penumbral lunar eclipses are generally not treated as grahan for ritual purposes.

City-specific eclipse timings vary; please confirm observance details with your purohit or local temple. See also today's planetary positions.
