Buddha Purnima (also called Buddha Jayanti or Vesak) is the holiest day in Buddhism, marking the birth, enlightenment, and death (Mahaparinirvana) of Siddhartha Gautama — Gautama Buddha.

Significance

All three major events in the life of Gautama Buddha — his birth in Lumbini, his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, and his death at Kushinagar — are believed to have occurred on the same day of the lunar calendar: Vaishakha Purnima.
