About Eclipses
Solar Eclipse (Surya Grahan)
Occurs when the Moon comes between the Sun and Earth, blocking sunlight. This happens only during New Moon (Amavasya).
Lunar Eclipse (Chandra Grahan)
Occurs when Earth comes between the Sun and Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon. This happens only during Full Moon (Pournami).
Types of Eclipses
- Total: Complete coverage of the celestial body
- Partial: Only a portion is covered
- Annular: Ring of sunlight visible around the Moon (Solar only)
- Penumbral: Moon passes through Earth's lighter outer shadow (Lunar only)
