Panchang (also spelled Panchangam) is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. The word "Panchang" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "five limbs" - referring to the five key elements that make up the calendar:

1. Tithi - Lunar day (phase of the moon)
2. Nakshatra - Lunar mansion (position of the moon among 27 star constellations)
3. Yoga - Auspicious combination of sun and moon positions
4. Karana - Half of a Tithi
5. Vara - Day of the week

Why location matters?

Panchang timings depend on the exact sunrise and sunset times at a location. Even a few minutes difference in sunrise can change when a Tithi begins or ends. That's why we use Ahmedabad as the reference point for all Gujarat calculations.
