Significance

Krittika is an extremely auspicious day when the Moon transits through the Krittika nakshatra. It is sacred to Lord Kartikeya (Murugan) and Lord Shiva. The day is especially significant in Tamil Nadu where Karthigai Deepam is celebrated. Lighting lamps on this day is believed to remove darkness from life and bring spiritual enlightenment. The Krittika star is ruled by Agni (Fire God), making fire rituals highly potent.
