Chhattisgarh Panchang - How It's Calculated
Understanding the Panchang system used for Chhattisgarh
What is Panchang?
Panchang (also spelled Panchangam) is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. The word "Panchang" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "five limbs" - referring to the five key elements that make up the calendar:
- Tithi - Lunar day (phase of the moon)
- Nakshatra - Lunar mansion (position of the moon among 27 star constellations)
- Yoga - Auspicious combination of sun and moon positions
- Karana - Half of a Tithi
- Vara - Day of the week
Chhattisgarh Panchang Calculation
The Chhattisgarh Panchang on Daily Calendar is calculated specifically for Raipur as the reference location. This ensures accuracy for the entire Chhattisgarh region.
Reference City Details
| City | Raipur |
| Latitude | 30.311°N |
| Longitude | 78.0898°E |
| Timezone | Asia/Kolkata |
Why location matters?
Panchang timings depend on the exact sunrise and sunset times at a location. Even a few minutes difference in sunrise can change when a Tithi begins or ends. That's why we use Raipur as the reference point for all Chhattisgarh calculations.
Calculation Methodology
Our Panchang calculations use:
- Swiss Ephemeris - High-precision astronomical calculations
- Lahiri Ayanamsha - The most widely used Ayanamsha in India (Drik system)
- True Positions - Real astronomical positions of Sun and Moon
This methodology is known as Drik Panchang (observational Panchang), which calculates timings based on actual astronomical positions rather than traditional approximations.
